Construction Update

Honnold/Mudd Library Construction Projects

Re-roofing:
We are pleased to announce that the project to provide a new roof for Honnold/Mudd Library is nearing completion! The re-roofing began on October 16, 2003 and is now seventy-five percent complete. Parts of the roof are being replaced, which will protect us and our resources. Most of the remaining work will not involve the noise disturbances of heavy demolition; furthermore, the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system (HVAC) will no longer need to be turned off, ensuring a comfortable climate within the library. The remaining work will in large part be focused on the portion of the roof which covers the Search Center (Mudd side of the library) and will be the most complex portion of the project due to the close proximity of telephone antennas and vertical cement columns found on this area of the roof.

We would like to thank all patrons of Honnold/Mudd Library for your continued support and understanding during this re-roofing project. We will continue to do all that we can to alleviate any inconveniences caused by the project.

Circulation Redesign:
During December and January, the entire Circulation area was redesigned and renovated to provide better service, to improve behind-the-scenes work flow for staff and to use the available space more efficiently. In addition to a new public service counter and new carpeting and paint, new furnishings and upgraded computers will allow a smoother check-out and check-in process, for both library users and staff. The equipment will provide separate work areas for specific functions, such as the processing of Link+ books and ERes (Electronic Reserve) materials. In the near future, we will also add a new Self-Checkout machine that will allow patrons to check out their own books without staff mediation.

Additional Construction Updates:
The sidewalk on the south side of the library which extends from Columbia to Dartmouth Avenue is now reopened. It was closed due to the digging of two new manholes, which are now complete.

The bookdrop on the east side of Honnold/Mudd, which had been temporarily moved during construction, has now been moved back to its original location on the corner of Columbia and 8th Street.
