California Legislative Analyst's Office
Non-partisan office that supplies fiscal and policy advice to the California Legislature in ten policy areas: Criminal Justice, Economics, Revenues, and Taxation, K-12 Education, Higher Education, Health, Local Government, Resources and Environmental Protection, Social Services, State Administration, and Transportation, Business, and Housing.
It is overseen by the 16-member, bipartsan Joint Legislative Budget Committee.
California Statutes
California Statutes are the Chaptered Bills. A bill is "chaptered"
by the Secretary of State after it has passed through both houses of the
Legislature and has been signed by the Governor or becomes law without
the Governor's signature. Statutes are available starting from 1993. This
site is maintained by the Legislative Counsel of the State of California.
California Codes
The official website for the codified laws of California. Once a bill is chaptered, it
is coded so that all laws pertinent to one topic (example: Education) appear together.
California Law consists of 29 codes, covering various subject areas, the State Constitution
and Statutes. Information presented reflects laws currently in effect.
This site is maintained by the Legislative Counsel of the State of California.
California Code of Regulations
Once a law is enacted, the governmental agencies implement them with regulations.
The California Code of Regulations (CCR) Website contains the
text of the regulations that have been formally adopted by state
agencies, reviewed and approved by the Office of Administrative
Law, and filed with the Secretary of State.

Office of the Attorney General A wide range of information, programs, and services are available: for consumers and businesses, on criminal justice, crime statistics, legal opinions, and more.
Find the names of charities registered in the state of California and the
most recently filed IRS Form 990 financial reports filed with the Attorney
General's Registry of Charitable Trusts. Update: a new site is being implemented. A link is provided to a non-profit database: Guidestar.org, which requires a free registration for use.
The Secretary of State provides information for voters, on political reform and transparency, maintains three registries: Safe at Home, the Advanced Health Care Initiative, and the Domestic Partners registry. The office also maintains the California State Archives and California Museum for History, Women, and the Arts.
