Are DVDs and other media listed in Blais?
Yes, they are. Media materials such as DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs and computer disks are all cataloged individually in Blais and are housed at the Services Desk at each library. These items will appear in Blais with the following locations, prefaced by a library abbreviation (HON, DEN, SGM, or SPR) and followed by the appropriate call number:
- CDs (music) - CIRC AUDIO CD
- Spoken word CDs or tapes - CIRC MEDIA
- CDs (computer) - CIRC MEDIA
- CD-ROMs - CD-ROM
- DVDs or VHS tapes- AUDIOVISUAL
Many of these items accompany books or printed materials. The CD-ROMs and disks may be checked out but must be returned directly to the library's Services Desk to prevent damage to these items.
Where are they in each library?
All media materials are housed at the Services Desk at each library. Just ask staff at that desk for the call number you want.
How can I find just CDs or DVDs?
Search by title, director or topic. Then use the Limit/Sort Search button at the top of your search results.
For example.
- Search by title for Romeo and Juliet.
- Then limit by Type of Material Musical Recordings to find music CDs, or limit to Videos to find either DVDs or videocassettes.
- If you limited by Videos, you can then use the next limit, Videos to specify either "DVD" or "VHS" and see only one or the other.
The links below will search Blais and provide the results specified. (These results are sorted alphabetically by title.)
What can I do if I can't find what I want?
Here are some other things you can try if you're a student at The Claremont Colleges:
- Check Pomona's video collection.
- Check Pitzer's video collection.
Still no luck? Email Meg Garrett at Honnold/Mudd Library for help.
I don't know which video I want. Can I browse?
There are notebooks at the Services Desk in Honnold/Mudd. You can sit and browse through them. They are in categories; Drama, Comedy, Music, Science Fiction, International by country, and Documentaries. These notebooks include only DVDs and VHS tapes in the Honnold/Mudd collection.
Does LINK+ work for DVDs or CDs?
No, LINK+ is just for books, and LINK+ libraries won't lend DVDs, VHS tapes, or CDs.
