How do you know when a book is on reserve?
Course syllabi and the on-line catalog (Blais) indicate when a book is on reserve. Please note if you are being directed to the Reserve Desk at the Circulation department of the Honnold/Mudd Library or the reserve areas at Denison, Seeley G. Mudd or Sprague. Also, some items are be available electronically through The Libraries' Electronic Course Reserve System.
Checking out reserve books
The Reserve Desk is located on the 2nd floor of Honnold Mudd in the Circulation Department, just off the library entrance. The different loan periods for reserve materials are 2-hour, 2-day and 7-day. The length of the loan period is determined by the course instructor.
In order to check out the reserve material, you must present the call number to the staff person at the Reserve desk. The call number can be found in the Blais on-line catalog or in the notebooks at the Reserve desk. Also, you must present your ID/library card in order to check out any reserve materials. Your library card is not transferable.
Reservations
Holds may be placed on 2-day and 7-day reserve items. You will be responsible for checking your account or with the Reserve Desk to see if the item has come in. 2-hour books and pamphlets, and videos may be reserved for overnight check-out only. You may pick up these items between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. on the night of your reservation. If you will be unable to pick up the item until later, please inform the staff so we do not release the item to someone else. Items borrowed overnight are due back at the Reserve Desk within one hour after the library opens the following day. If you decide you do not need the material, please cancel your request so that other students may check-out the material.
Renewals
Reserve materials may be renewed if other requests have not been made for them. You will need both your reserve item and your ID/library card in order to renew it. 2-day and 7-day items may be renewed by phone.
Returning reserve books
All reserve materials must be returned to the Reserve desk. Please return the 2-hour reserve materials within the two hour period. The 2-hour reserve items have been placed in that category because of anticipated heavy use. Fines for reserve materials accrue from the time they are due.
Fines
Reserve fines accrue at the following rates: hourly items, $.50/hr; 2-day items, $1.00/day; 7-day items, $.50/day. Reserve materials checked-out in an envelope must be returned with that envelope. Failure to return the envelope with the item will result in a $5.00 charge plus whatever fines are incurred due to delay in check-in caused by the missing envelope.
Lost books
If you lose a reserve book, report this promptly to the Circulation Department (x18372) so that the high fines will stop accruing. Paying the replacement cost will stop fines from accruing. If you find the book later, the cost of the book will be returned; the overdue fee is non-refundable.
- Please remember, an unpaid bill of $70.00 or more suspends student borrowing privileges.
- All reserve materials must be checked out at the Reserve desk in the Circulation department, 2nd floor, New Library, The Honnold/Mudd Library.
