How do you know when an item is on reserve at the library?
Your instructor or your course syllabus should indicate where an item is on reserve. You can also search Blais, the online catalog, for items on reserve in one of the Libraries. The "Location" in Blais will indicate a library (HON, DEN) and "Reserve."
Reserve materials are shelved and must be picked up in the library where they are held. Pay attention to the location so you will go to the right library: Denison or Honnold/Mudd.
Checking out materials on reserve
Materials on reserve in the library may have any of several different check out periods: 2-hour, 4-hour, 2-day, or 7-day. Be sure you know how long you can keep a reserve item when you check it out.
You must present your ID/library card in order to check out reserve materials. Your library card is not transferable.
Placing a HOLD on a reserve item
Holds may be placed on 2-day and 7-day reserve items. You will be responsible for checking to see if the item has come in. You can check by accessing your account in Blais.
Renewing a reserve item
A reserve item may be renewed if other students have not requested it (for example, by placing a hold). To renew a reserve item, you will need both the reserve item and your ID/library card.
You must renew 2-hour and 4-hour items in person; 2-day and 7-day items may be renewed by phone at ext. 18150 (909/621-8150).
Returning reserve materials
- All reserve materials must be returned to the desk at the library from which they were checked out.
- Items on 2-hour reserve should be returned within the 2-hour check out period, not after it ends.
Fines, lost items, and blocked accounts
- Fines
Reserve fines accrue at the following rates: hourly items, $.50/hr; 2-day items, $1.00/day; 7-day items, $.50/day.
Reserve materials checked-out in an envelope must be returned with that envelope. Failure to return the envelope with the item will result in a $5.00 charge plus any fines that may be incurred. - Lost items
If you lose a reserve book, report this promptly so that we can arrange to replace it. Reporting the loss will stop fines from continuing to accrue. If you find the book later, the cost of the book will be returned; fees and fines are non-refundable. - Blocked accounts
Please remember that an unpaid bill of $100.00 or more suspends student borrowing privileges for all materials, including reserves.
