Electronic Reserves: Technical Requirements

Browsers

The Libraries recommend that you use Firefox as your browser to access electronic reserves. Microsoft Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari should all work with electronic reserves.

Cookies

Cookies must be enabled on your browser. The Docutek software uses "session variables" to remember information associated with your activity during an ERes session, and in order to write your session ID number, cookies must be enabled. In addition, the ERes server writes an ID number on your local machine, in order to differentiate you from others using the system at the same time. This information is temporary and disappears either when you log out of ERes, or after a specified time-out period has elapsed. Note: ERes does not write permanent cookies to your machine!

Acrobat Reader

Most documents on electronic reserves are in the .pdf format. To read these you will need to have Acrobat Reader installed on your machine. Some documents on electronic reserve have been optimized to minimize file size, and you will need Acrobat 6.0 (or a later version) to read them. You can download the free Acrobat Reader at http://www.acrobat.com. To download from this site, click "Get Adobe Reader."

Printing

There have been occasional reports of Acrobat documents showing a "mirror image" or severe degradation of the text. It may help in these cases to select "Print as image" from the printer options dialog box.
