The Francis Haynes Lindley Memorial Collection was donated to Honnold Library by Walter Lindley and F. Haynes Lindley, Jr. in memory of their father, Francis Haynes Lindley. The 3,000 volume donation covers a wide range of subjects including history, literature, poetry, drama, and travel. It is particularly strong in Shakespeare, Milton, and dramatists through Sheridan. There is also a major concentration on works by and about Samuel Johnson and Sir Richard Burton. The collection also contains thirty-one scrapbooks documenting turn-of-the-century Los Angeles society and includes an extensive body of theatrical memorabilia as well as contemporary medicinal recipes and an account of a lecture delivered by Ralph Waldo Emerson.
