DR. KINGMAN    [1921]

In the death of Dr. Henry Kingman, pastor emeritus of the Claremont church, the community in which he was for so long a resident, Pomona College of which he was a devoted trustee, and the entire valley where his influence was felt, have suffered a severe loss. Although his long sickness had prevented him for many years from taking an active part in church, college and community affairs, and although his life had been despaired of many times, he nevertheless remained a vital factor in the spiritual life of the community in which he lived.

Dr. Kingman was loved by all who knew him and especially by those who were members of his congregation. To them he was their spiritual leader, in him they found a translation of Christ's teachings into the life of man. He was a deep thinker, an inspired writer and an eloquent speaker. Above all, he was a true Christian, devoted to his church, his family and his friends. In the face of death he was cheerful and courageous. To everyone he was kindly and considerate.

No man ever passed into the great unknown realms beyond this earthly life with a greater faith in immortality than Dr. Henry Kingman, Claremont's beloved pastor.
